Snow Storm Coming Wednesday Night Through Thursday

Snow Storm Coming Wednesday Night Through Thursday

Well if you haven't heard we do have a winter storm on the way it's our first name one of the seasons and just to give you a reminder perhaps you're new to Connecticut here.

At this blog dating back to 1971 we've been naming storms and to get a name a storm must be forecast to receive six inches or more of snow or half an inch of ice. So we're not looking for any sort of ice in this storm.

This looks like it's going to be primarily snow and potentially a lot of it and given that we're about 48 hours out from the start a winter storm watch has been posted for the entire state from later Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon.

So the rain-snow that we've had today unrelated to the midweek storm. You can see in fact what we've been dealing with recently has been winding down and is exiting southeast Connecticut certainly on the chilly side temperatures statewide fairly uniform between 32 and 37 all across Connecticut.

There's not too much of a wind out there. When it's up for sale on the shoreline three to eight miles an hour making. It feels a couple of degrees cooler chillier. There's our ICANN view from Torrington where we did see some snowflakes flying earlier most recently in new haven.

But that has since cleared out still can see on the roads there that they are wet and looking throughout the region we are getting going to get some clearing underway as we head through the evening hours.

As the storm center from this round passes offshore well to our south and taking the precipitation. Then eventually the clouds with us so high-pressure tomorrow briefly builds in which means plenty of time to maybe check out your snowblower get out the shovels.

If they've maybe packed away in a shed or in the back of your garage because you'll certainly need them Wednesday night into Thursday tomorrow a quiet bright day but one featuring against some chilly temperatures. So here's a forecast showing our Tuesday ample sunshine tomorrow morning right on through the afternoon hours all right so.

While we are still getting closer to the start time still 48 hours still a couple of discrepancies with our models here's the gas model. This is seven o'clock Wednesday morning basically cloudy, but dry here in Connecticut as we head toward.

And after sunset, you can see the bluish beginning to show up across Connecticut indicating that snow coming down at a pretty good clip Wednesday night into Thursday morning. And this particular model run with the storm track farther offshore winds the snow down much sooner with some evening clearing by Thursday.

Now conversely the European model is certainly more robust at seven o'clock. Wednesday morning again dry but clouding up as we head toward an after sunset, that snow again begins so fairly similar on the start time.

But look how farther north the snow shield goes those deeper shades of blue Wednesday night into Thursday morning could get some snowfall rates one to two inches an hour. The storm track not as far offshore. And then it winds down a little bit slower on Thursday during the course of the afternoon.

So again our preliminary look at the numbers a stab at the forecast here 10 to 18 inches across much of inland Connecticut 8 to 12 inches coastal.

And southeastern portions of our state. So our early warning seven-day forecast it's going to be cold temperatures down to the teens and 20's, which means a very light fluffy snow. And then behind the storm system 31 bright sunshine on Friday.

In the upcoming weekend 34 Saturday perhaps some rain snow showers by Sunday with temperatures moderating back to near 40 next week. Right now looks to start off on a dry and milder note shoreline high after tomorrow we may not make it above freezing for a few days.
